They Call the Winds Ferocious

For those of you following along on this blog, my apologies, but I am not able to load pictures  It turns out Google blogger doesn't play nicely with iPhones and I have been spending WAY to much time (and for some reason I'm tired at night 🀣). I am going to play around with what I want to do when we have a rest day.  In the meantime here is a brief rundown of our last days.

Thursday, September 16
We left Jacumba at about 6:30 a.m. It never gets old to see the sunrise.  Most of our climbing today was early which was nice, but we were in for a surprise on the way down to the desert floor.  We were hit with winds the like no one had ever experienced.  Buffeted to and fro and grateful to get down to
my first time below sea level to the Imperial Valley.  We traveled 63 miles to our motel in Brawley.  Air conditioning πŸ‘

Friday, September 17
Holy Moly- 91 miles today through the desert. Sand dunes and the chocolate mountains which really do look like chocolate.  Lots of rollers today.  Snowy Egrets were with us in the morning and we crossed the Colorado River.  A highlight was seeing a pre-Columbia monument and path where those ancient peoples traveled.

Saturday, September 18
Today we rode 63 miles to Salome.  We were in Saguaro  cacti heaven!  I'd never seen them before and they are uniquely enchanting!  They even were plentiful along the freeway though may not be noticed at 75 miles per hour.  They really captured me, a bit like I felt about Redwoods. We've never been through such desert lands so we're really soaking it up.  We have beautiful lodging with an old timey hacienda decor.
